1 thought on “rabbi shmulie and Mushka Cunin”

I am a UCSD professor that met Rav Cunin and Rebetzin Mushka since the very beginning of their Shlichut here in campus. Their kindness, hard work, and generosity makes a huge difference for the Jewish students and faculties.
Shabbat dinners and lunches in their welcoming open house are often attended by many students and some of us. During the High Holidays, bravely, Rav Cunin alone carried the Tefilla’, one and only Chazan. Rosh Ashana’ in their home has been for me a touching and very inspirational experience.
In the difficult times that involved anti-semitism and confusion in our Universities, Chabbad UCSD “tamed” the responses, offered shelter and love and, most of all, reminded to all of us, the importance of Tikkun Olam, peace and maturity in facing contrasts and attacks. As a religious women scientist, coming from a different country (I am Italian), I well know the solitude of being away from home, and not been married young in the orthodox world, with the difficulties in “fitting in” while working hard following the indispensable path to make something good of ourselves. Rebetzin Mushka talks to any kind of student, she is capable to touch the heart and drive the attention to the Mitzvot to young women very diverse among each other, often coming from very non-religious families. Nobody feels different or inadequate. For me has been very touching to feel “belonging”. We shacked the Lulav in campus on Succot in a diversified atmosphere, touching so see the patience of the Rav and Mushka in repeating over and over Berachot, obscure to many students. The Jewish students at UCSD are over 3,000. Mezuzot were hanged in the dorms at the beginning of the year, prayers before finals….We have a Jewish home that is a jewel here. Please join me in supporting this brave, courageous young family that has already initiated a very special spiritual path for all of us.
