Temple Emanu-El announces its “Band Shabbat” at 6 p.m., Friday, March 20. The event includes uplifting melodies, layered harmonies while blending traditional and contemporary sound in a prayer experience that is participatory, joyful, and deeply meaningful.

Lawrence Family JCC’s North County Film Screening presents “Once Upon My Mother” at 5 p.m., Monday, March 23 at the Carlsbad City Library. This film follows a true story of a Moroccan-Jewish mother who refuses to accept doctors’ predictions that her son, born with a club foot, will never walk. Click here for tickets.

Temple Emanu-El presents its “Congregational Seder Brunch” at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 4. The event includes a catered brunch menu from Elijah’s Restaurant which includes matzah, charoset, eggs, chopped liver, matzah ball soup, lox, whitefish salad, egg salad, tuna salad, vegetables, breakfast potatoes, matzah brei, egg casserole, and macaroons. Ner Tamid Synagogue’s The Man presents its “First Annual: Matzah Brei Breakfast Fundraiser” at 9:30 a.m., Sunday, April 5. Organizers say to come and support a great cause, and it is just like a pancake breakfast but during Passover. Click here to register.

This film takes place in 1943 when Jews fleeing Nazi persecution set out across the Pyrenees. A civil servant chooses to defy his superiors and help refugees cross into safety.
