Hadassah, ‘Joint,’ place in Charity Navigator’s top 10

charity navigatorSANTA BARBARA (Press Release)– Charity Navigator, America’s premier independent charity evaluator, has ranked Direct Relief No. 1 on its list of “Ten of the Best Charities Everyone’s Heard Of.”  Two Jewish organizations, Hadassah and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, nicknamed “The Joint,” came in third and sixth respectively.

Charity Navigator, which helps inform intelligent giving decisions through objective ratings and in-depth analysis of U.S. charities, based the top ten list on a series of criteria that includes exceptional financial management, operational complexity, and global reach. The ten charities on the list were selected from more than 7,000 evaluated by Charity Navigator in 2014.

“Charitable givers should feel confident that these national institutions put their donations to good use,” according Charity Navigator on its website.

Direct Relief’s ranking is based on the organization’s Charity Navigator score of 99.71 percent, which accounts for financial performance, transparency and accountability.

“Charity Navigator is the nation’s premier independent charity evaluator,” Hadassah’s National President Marcie Natan commented. “Their ratings, based on in-depth analysis of U.S. charities, help donors make intelligent decisions about their philanthropy. Criteria include financial performance, accountability, and transparency. We have been awarded Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating (the highest) many times, but this is a new and noteworthy validation of all our efforts.”
