Conference urges Jewish caution over Shabbat

conference of presidents logoNEW YORK (Press Release) — Conference of Presidents leaders Robert G. Sugarman, Chairman, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, expressed the solidarity of the Jewish community of the United States with the people of France in the wake of the horrendous attacks by Islamist terrorists on the Charlie Hebdo magazine, the killing of the female police officer, and now the assault on the kosher food market near Saint-Mandé.

“We have been in touch with leaders of the Jewish Community of France and the facts regarding the situation are still developing and remain unclear,” they said. “As part of the ongoing communication and coordination with our European counterparts, Paul Goldenberg, the head of the Secure Community Network (SCN) of the United States is in Paris for meetings with his European counterparts and is close to the site of the attack on the kosher establishment. We pray that everyone will emerge safely.”

“As a matter of precaution, as in all such cases, we urge additional vigilance by Jewish institutions here, especially during the Sabbath. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Jewish community in Paris and all of France at this critical time. We hope that steps will be taken by local and national authorities to end incitement and to hold to account not only those who perpetrate these outrageous crimes but those who aid and abet them,” said Sugarman and Hoenlein.
