Some weight-conscious tips for Passover

By Sandi Masori

SAN DIEGO — Oh, oh, first night of Passover is coming Friday night, April 6, and with it, a big, big meal.  What is a weight-conscious Jew to do?

That’s the question I put in the video embedded below to Shari Marks, a rebbitzen who, having shed 60 pounds herself, is now a coach for people who would like to follow her example.

Some of her suggestions included:

1) Don’t eat a lot of carbs before the seder, so that you can have some matzah and wine during the seder.

2) Wear a belt so that you know when to say WHEN (if you have to loosen it, it’s time to stop)

3) Offer to help wash dishes instead of sitting at the table when the desserts come out.

4) If you have to indulge in something yummy, take just a tablespoon of it for the taste.

5) If you’re going to be the guest of someone who makes something that you wait all year to eat, vow that specific dessert will be your special treat for the week, and use it to help you stay away from other temptations.

6) Try to take a walk every day.  If you’re visiting friends who have a baby, offer to take the baby in the stroller out for a walk.  It will give the parents a much-needed break, and give you an excuse to move.
