JFS wins STAR billing

SAN DIEGO (Press Release) – Jewish Family Service has earned the coveted STAR Recognition Award from the Beverly Foundation, a non-profit organization that researches, develops technical materials, and assists with facilitation of mobility and transportation for older adults. Jewish Family Service was selected as one of eight organizations nationwide to receive the 2012 STAR Special Recognition Award by a Beverly Foundation committee of 19 experts in the area of aging and transportation. The $10,000 award will help Jewish Family Service continue its mission to provide transportation services to older adults.

Specifically, the award benefits Jewish Family Service’s On the Go: Transportation Solutions for Older Adults, a division of Charitable Adult Rides & Services, Inc., a subsidiary of the organization. On the Go consists of three service components offering both group and individual transportation. The On the Go Rides & Smiles® program provides individual transportation through volunteer drivers for older adults to medical and personal appointments. On the Go Shuttles provide group transportation to Jewish Family Service’s Social & Wellness Centers, shopping centers, and lunch destinations. On the Go also offers exciting organized excursions to locations throughout San Diego County and surrounding areas. For additional information, please contact On the Go at www.jfssd.org/onthego  or call (877) 634-6537.

“This national recognition,” said Michael Hopkins, CEO of Jewish Family Service, “is a testament to Jewish Family Service’s unwavering commitment to providing transportation services to older adults.”

Earlier this year, Jewish Family Service’s On the Go Program signed two grants that enabled the expansion of its Rides & Smiles operations to the Northern San Diego region, most significantly to the Carmel Valley region, which previously had no public transportation.
