BETHESDA, Maryland (Press Release) -Friends of Yemin Orde appointed Robert L. Gurmankin, an experienced leader and fundraiser in the Jewish philanthropic arena, as the organization’s first Director of Major Gifts. Gurmankin will focus his development efforts in the New York tri-state area and the Philadelphia region, and will work to build relationships with foundations and community leaders, cultivate new high level gifts from individuals and develop new fundraising strategies for Yemin Orde Youth Village and Yemin Orde Educational Initiatives (YOEI).

Previously, Gurmankin served as Development Vice President at the Arnold P. Gold Foundation for Humanism in Medicine. Additionally, he served in executive and consultant positions in fundraising, strategic planning and organizational development in high profile U.S.-based Jewish communal organizations. Among them are UJA-Federation of New York, Birthright Israel International, the National Museum of American Jewish History, B’nai B’rith International, the Abraham Joshua Heschel School and the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati.

Karen Sallerson, Executive Director, Friends of Yemin Orde, said Gurmankin’s appointment comes at a critical time when the Village is welcoming new populations of vulnerable immigrant children to its home and school, as well as experiencing the robust expansion of the Educational Initiatives into additional youth villages and public high schools throughout Israel.

Yemin Orde Youth Village, located near Haifa, is home, school, and safe haven to approximately 400 at-risk immigrant youth from around the world. The children at the Village have all suffered trauma: from abandonment and isolation to neglect and extreme poverty. At Yemin Orde, their lives are transformed and they graduate to become productive members of Israeli society.
