SAN DIEGO (Press Release) — Councilmember Marti Emerald said Wednesday, Oct. 1, she is looking forward to the successful installation of two public Portland Loo restroom facilities in downtown San Diego. City staff has recently made significant progress to ensure that the project will conform to California Building Codes.

The loos are two self-contained, prefabricated, public restrooms. One will be installed at the southwest corner of 14th and L Streets and the other at the northwest corner of Market Street and Park Boulevard. The City Council approved the purchase of the public restrooms in February of this year.

Emerald teamed up the with Girls Think Tank advocacy group over four years ago to recommend that the City construct these restrooms. “They will serve visitors, residents, and the homeless. Thank you to our Portland colleagues for creating this great urban solution for the public’s need to “go” and to our City Engineers and Civic San Diego for pushing this project along. And, special heartfelt thanks to the Girls Think Tank and David “Waterman” Ross for their advocacy” said Emerald.

The City is expecting to receive the Portland Loos in mid-October 2014 and the project has an estimated completion date of January 2015.
