NEW YORK (Press Release)–The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) on Wednesday, February 25, applauded the introduction of a Senate resolution, which condemns anti-Semitism and urges measures to prevent and combat anti-Semitic attacks and incidents. Senators Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Mark Kirk (R-IL), Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), and Marco Rubio (R-FL) are leading the effort with the support of more than half of the Senate — 53 original co-sponsors total.
The resolution is a response to the escalation of attacks against Jewish communities across Europe and urges the U.S. to work closely with the European Union, governments, and international organizations to address anti-Semitism with specific recommendations to enhance their response. In the resolution, the Senators highlight the findings of ADL’s Global 100 Index of Anti-Semitic Attitudes, a poll of public attitudes in more than 100 countries which found more than one-quarter of the world’s population harbors deeply entrenched anti-Semitic attitudes.
“Congressional action against anti-Semitism has been vital and we are gratified that the Senate is elevating U.S. leadership on this issue,” said Barry Curtiss-Lusher, ADL National Chair. “Senators Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Mark Kirk (R-IL), Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), and Marco Rubio (R-FL) are mobilizing an important moral voice in the Senate, standing up for the safety and security of Jewish communities around the world facing anti-Semitic violence and intimidation.”
“We look forward to the Senate’s passage of this resolution and hope that leaders across Europe will heed this call and agree to come together and work with the United States to push back against the rising tide of anti-Semitism,” said Abraham H.
