Humoring the headlines: July 16, 2015

SAN DIEGO─ Marco Rubio’s new campaign ad condemns Obama’s Nuclear Deal with Iran and concludes with a mushroom-shaped cloud explosion.  It is unclear whether this image alludes to the dire consequences of the Iranian deal or to Rubio’s chances of winning the Republican presidential nomination.

A new Gallup poll indicates that 78 percent of Republicans deem the Confederate battle flag a symbol of Southern pride and not of racism.   Yet Mississippi’s declaration of secession echoed that of other Confederate states in “thoroughly identifying with the institution of slavery.”  Gays have a lot more reason for pride than wavers of the Stars and Bars.

President Obama admitted at his press conference that there is no precedent for revoking Bill Cosby’s Medal of Freedom, but suggested that Congress should pass a law requiring the comedian to wear a scarlet “R” whenever he is in the presence of women.

Announcing his candidacy for the Republican nomination for President, Scott Walker touted his record of breaking the power of state employee unions, defunding Planned Parenthood, and enacting Castle Doctrine, concealed carry weapon, and pro-life legislation.  And he’s a considered a mainstream Republican candidate!

Donald Trump confidently predicted he will win the Latino vote in a presidential election.  IN a related story the Supreme Leader of Iran confidently predicted he would win the Jewish vote if Palestine was restored as an Islamic State.
