LA JOLLA, California –The Talmudic Sages coined a phrase to express their dismay and revulsion against the bad habit of one of their lower-level scholars who always tried ” to purify a non-kosher animal with 150 reasons (letaher sheretz bekan teamim.) They meant that, even for a flagrantly treif meat, forbidden for consumption according to the biblical laws and their own decisions, that dissident would find many reasons, using a twisted logic, to kosherize it.
Later, this expression was extended to cover situations where opinions, ideas and human acts, even those of a criminal kind, are ignored, denied, excused, or explained away without shame, as would a modern criminal defense attorney.
And, as would the multitude of speakers at the Democratic Convention who extolled the virtues of their candidate, Hillary Clinton, knowing full well that she is a multi-time felon, not convicted in a court of law only because of the corruption of those who swore to uphold the law, but certainly convicted in the court of public opinion when 70% of the American people do not trust her and see her as a liar and a prevaricator. From interview to interview, from press conference to press conference, she keeps denying facts of her multiple misdeeds even when shown the pictures on TV to prove their validity. She has used up her 150 reasons to “purify the impure.” On Saturday, she surpassed herself; she lied and then lied about lying. No, she said, FBI Director James Comey (who accused her of being “extremely careless,” a euphemism for the legal term of “gross negligence) did not say what he was shown saying on TV, under oath, at a congressional hearing when, in response to Congressman Trey Gowdy’s (R-South Carolina) incisive questions if Hillary told the truth, the director responded with a firm “no” repeated a few times.
One of them is enough to disqualify the best of candidates. The Washington Post hit her with four pinocchios.
“Those who swore to uphold the law,” the president and his attorney general, did everything to obstruct justice: Obama interfered in the judicial process when he said in an interview that Hillary Clinton did not harm national security, and Lynch committed the worst of violations when she received a visit that lasted half an hour by no other than a former president of the United States and the husband of Hillary Clinton when her case was pending before the attorney general and when he, Bill Clinton, could be called as a witness or even as a suspect because of his involvement in the Clinton Foundation.
The encounter was camouflaged as a chance encounter of two planes on the tarmac of an airport. (Two other planes on another tarmac , in Tehran this time, also had a “chance encounter” according to the president of the United States, when the American plane delivered 400 million dollars in foreign currency cash to the Iranians who delivered the four American hostages, 100 million a piece. The whole world knew it was ransom money except Obama and his acolytes who were lost in false “reasons to purify the impure.”) That’s the m.o. of the Obama administration: first, deny, and when caught, obfuscate and lie.
Who knows what Bill Clinton told Loretta Lynch on the tarmac, maybe threats, maybe reiteration of his wife’s public promise to reappoint Lynch as attorney general, no less than a bribe. But they got their way; the A.G., with the nod of the president, shut down Hillary’s case with the infamous “There is no evidence…” Not even appointing an independent investigator to save face! With zero credibility of the government, we better listen to the multitude of US attorneys, prosecutors, and judges who found the presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, guilty as hell.
Hillary Clinton’s bad reputation was not born yesterday; it was built piece by piece over three decades of political activity. Books have been written on her scandals, and just last week, I received a little brochure, easy to read, from Liberty Guard (POB 1645,Merrifield, VA, 22116-1645.) Another excellent source is Judicial Watch, easily Googled. The brochure lists the most salient of her “scandals” as reported in the press, including the infamous “emails,” the incestuous relationship between the Clintons’ foundation and the State Department, the pay-to-play system by which donors of millions to the foundation, domestic and foreign, receive from the State Department undue influence or material quid-pro-quo, and, of course, Benghazi and other foreign policy disasters, and much more.
A few years ago, I wrote about Hillary’s ” avalanche of scandals;” it is now a tsunami.But the procession of sycophants continue, one after the other “to purify the impure.” And these are not “the unleavened masses” of the Democratic party, but the elite of the Left, well-established with vested interests, and well aware of the scandals, who elected to see no evil, to hear no evil. They know they are helping elect a candidate with so much baggage whom a majority of the American people see as liar and untrustworthy politician.
Becoming president is not a right but a privileged to be earned with integrity and good character as main qualifications. No one should aspire to that position without them; no one should become a candidate
when ethically challenged, diminished, and “damaged goods.” What kind of example, and lesson, does it impart to the new generations? The Democrat leaders bear the blame for this shame, aided and abetted by the troika of “media, academia, and comedia” (Hollywood), the pampered elite of the Left who never pay for the consequences of their mistakes,and the “free stuff” takers whose numbers increased substantially during the reign of Obama.
I hear some readers asking “What about Trump?” First, this is not my intention, in this article, to compare the candidates and their positions on issues, and to recommend a choice, but to concentrate on the unethical choice of Clinton. And second, all Trump’s controversies, his insults, his verbal hyperbole, all his negatives remain in the domain of free speech, however silly or non-sensical, and are not indictable. They only hurt him politically, not others or national security.
It is deplorable that out of 320 million people in the US, we end up with these two candidates whose unfavorability ratings surpass 60%. This is, of course, the result of the system of the Primaries that should be abandoned . (On that in another article.)
I will end this piece with an advice and a warning to the leaders of the DNC; I am doing it not for your sake but for the sake of American Democracy and the future of the country.
The advice: Replace Hillary with another Democrat without “baggage,” while there is still time. Why? Because two events may occur, one worse than the other, which will be catastrophic to the Democrats and to the country:
1) It is very possible, even probable, that some hackers, domestic or foreign, will produce the “smoking gun” against Hillary as an “October surprise,” which will force her to resign, and her party to lose the elections.
2) Or worse, Hillary is elected, and the hackers, especially the foreign ones, will use their powers to blackmail the President of the United States, a horrible prospect to contemplate, and a serious blow to US national security.
