Website will aid S.D. Jewish researchers

SAN DIEGO  (SDJW)– Scholars looking to research San Diego’s Jewish history as well as genealogists hoping to learn more about their own ancestors can now refer to a website created by the Jewish Historical Society of San Diego to learn what is in that organization’s collection.

The web address is http://jhssandiego.pastperfectonline.com/.  Collections are grouped into the following dozen categories:  B’nai B’rith Men, B’nai B’rith Women, Clergy, Community, Congregations, Jewish Community Center, Newspapers, Organizational, Personal, Pioneer, San Diego State University, and Women.

Within each of these categories is an interactive list of individual collections.  When the name of a collection is clicked upon, it will bring up on your computer a description of the kinds of documents one may find in that collection.  More than 70 collections are currently listed on the website.

The archives are curated by Laurel and Stan Schwartz and can be accessed via the Snyder Reading Room at the Love Library on the San Diego State University campus.

Laurel Schwartz is scheduled to deliver a speech a6 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 7, at the San Diego History Center in Balboa Park on “San Diego Jews, World War I and the Growth of Benevolence. “

To learn more about her upcoming speech, one may refer to this website:  http://www.sandiegohistory.org/event/laurel-schwartz-lecture/
