US Congress certifies Biden win after Trump mob storms Capitol

LATE NEWS:  A Joint Session of the U.S. Senate and House, presided over by Vice President Mike Pence, certified the electoral college victory of Democrat Joe Biden as the next President of the United States and Kamala Harris as the next Vice President, defeating incumbent Republican President Donald Trump and  Vice President Pence.

As the results were announced at 3:40 a.m., Thursday morning, Eastern Time,  Pence remained stoic, having determined to do his constitutional duty of presiding over the Joint Session but not attempting to influence the deliberations as fellow Republicans objected to certification of the results in Arizona and Pennsylvania — causing the House and Senate to twice go into separate sessions, where those challenges were rejected.
