Deforestation in the Amazon Led to Reduced Thunderstorms, Tel Aviv Researchers Repor

“These findings are worrying because a decrease in the amount of storms leads to a decrease in the amount of rain, which in turn causes further damage to the forests. This is a dangerous feedback loop, which could severely damage the forests that provide the earth with a significant portion of the oxygen in the atmosphere and absorb a large portion of the carbon dioxide emitted by us into the atmosphere.” [Tel Aviv University Press Release]

Jewish Board Member Fred Schenk Says Care of Animals Part of Fair Board’s Mission

Schenk noted that, “There is a small but vocal community opposing the animals on the property and having livestock on the property and the sale of livestock. Our mission statement is about making the fairgrounds an agricultural environment. We are part of the California Department of Food and Agriculture. So, those who would take exception to our mission statement are the ones who would say, ‘well you know, you shouldn’t have young people selling their livestock.’ Well they are the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and members of 4-H and that is the world in which they want to spend their career, or their hobbies, and that is what their circle of life is all about – animal husbandry…” [Donald H. Rescued Animals Help Children Learn about Conservation at SeaWorld

Spike, the alligator, was discovered 32 years ago in Los Angeles in someone’s bathtub. If an alligator is discovered in the wild, and in need of rescue because of an injury, it is released back to the wild after being nursed to health.  However, in the case of alligators found illegally in domestic settings, they are taken to live permanently at rescue centers because the circumstances of their breeding are unknown.  Alligators that are in-bred by unscrupulous breeders may carry defective genes that should not be released into the wild alligator gene pool, Kerschner explained. The Jewish Eye: Anne Frank, King David in the News; Another Resignation Call for Feinstein

The famed Michelangelo sculpture of the biblical David, portrayed as a naked young man with a sling over his shoulder and a rock in his hand, was viewed in Florence, Italy, on Friday by Hope Carrasquilla, the former principal of Tallahassee (Florida) Classical school who was ousted from her position after parents complained she permitted students to see a picture of the statue without their permission. The museum’s director, Cecilie Hollberg, commented that David “has nothing to do with pornography” but rather is a “religious symbol of purity and innocence, the victory of good over evil.” [Donald H.
