Accident or murder on the Isle de France

Something happened… Schneider’s skull was laterally crushed by a heavy object. Though very near their port of destination, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Schneider was hurriedly buried at sea. The body could have been brought to Halifax, only a few days’ sail away. His remains could have been returned to his parents for Jewish burial in the United Kingdom. [Jerry Klinger]

Buchenwald liberation marks 81st anniversary amid controversy

At 10 a.m on the 11th, the Nazi commander ordered all 1,200 S.S. to retreat from the Camp. The Americans were coming. At 10:30 a.m,. the International Committee rose in revolt, captured 76 S.S. stragglers and their weapons. They took possession of Buchenwald. Throughout the day, heavy fighting continued as American armed forces secured the area. Not until late in the afternoon did advance units of the XX Corps enter Buchenwald. [Jerry Klinger]

The Old Canterbury (U.K.) Jewish Cemetery Behind the gate – an entire world

The gate opened.  I chose to go in. Nathaniel Isaacs led me to Alan Barnett, the Chairman of the Canterbury Jewish Historical Society. The gate opened wider. I encountered Henry Hart, Jacob the Jew, and Isaac Nathan in political and social controversy. I encountered P.C. challenges, sadly not overcome, and opportunities to respond to antisemitism by doing what the Jewish American Society for Historic Preservation does best: creating and placing permanent Jewish historical markers that affirm Jewish presence, contributions, and commonality. Memorial Marker for 11 Olympians from Israel Replaced in London, England

Sugarman explained, “Hackney was designated an Olympic Borough. (It was) Part of the Games facilities were in our Borough. We asked for a site in the Olympic Park, but it was designated too political and would upset the Arabs and others. Then we tried the Stratford Westfield shopping Centre, right near the stadium/. Lion Sculpture Sited at Common Border of Israel, Gaza and Egypt
