Feeling seven decades older during the pandemic

I often had business lunches and dinners out, and then there were all the lectures, plays, and concerts that our retirement community bus took us to several times a week. I complained I was too busy, running from one event to another, and had no time in between. I clocked around 10,000 steps on my Apple Watch every day. I felt invulnerable and ageless (as long as I didn’t look at that incongruent image reflected in the mirror). Then…BOOM! The pandemic struck, and we were confined to our apartments with all public areas closed, no dining room, no gym, no pool, no beach walks, no meeting friends, no going anywhere. Moses and Aaron leave to chat with God. They are given a rod and told to hold it up to a nearby rock, telling the people that God will provide water for them from that rock. What happens next is a surprise. Whether Moses is angry with the people for their constant complaining, or he isn’t quite sure if God will send the water flowing, or both, Moses strikes the rock and the water appears. Whenever I’ve been to Israel, whether on a mission or an independent tour, I’ve been impressed by that country’s fresh vegetables, especially its tomatoes. Maybe it is because the country is so small that tomatoes can be shipped from farm to market to the salad plate in a relatively short time, compared to how long the same process takes in the United States. Racism and the Judicial System

Although there are clearly some policemen who are racist and mean, there is racism throughout the judicial system. We get to see racism in policemen because they are the “muscle” that enforces the laws. It is really all of the components of the judicial system; the legislators, the lawyers, the judges, the laws, the prison system, and the police that have racist elements. The Canadian-born pianist, Daniel Wnukowski, displayed his talents as an accomplished artist and an insightful teacher in a live-streamed program last Sunday afternoon, sponsored by the Amateur Pianists. He selected three works from three distinct musical periods, the Baroque, the Classical and the Romantic, which he analyzed and contrasted before treating us to beautiful renditions of each. His program consisted of Bach’s Prelude and Fugue #2 from the Well-Tempered Clavichord, the Theme and Variations from Mozart’s Piano Sonata in A major, and Chopin’s 3rd Ballade. [Eileen Wingard]
