Jihadist Stabs 7 in N.Z. Supermarket Before He is Fatally Shot

A terrorist who went unarmed  into a Countdown supermarket in the Auckland suburb of New Lynn on Friday afternoon grabbed a knife off a shelf and attacked and injured six shoppers before he was shot and killed by two armed police.  The officers were part of a Special Tactics Squad (STS) who have had him under surveillance since 2016 when he was listed as a high security risk for his beliefs.  [John Bernard McCormick]

Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Will Be ‘Gone by Lunch Time’ in New Zealand

Rush Munro’s ice cream parlor sells only its own ice cream. In Dad’s day it was hand made and he would walk a mile down Tomoana Road to the shop on Heretaunga Street after school for the best ice cream in the country. The shop today is a ‘Happy Days’ TV show style ice cream  parlor with soda drinks and the like, but no burgers or chips. It has an indoor area with a garden bar area with a fish pond that has been there since Dad was a boy. [John Bernard McCormick]

Petition Urges New Zealand to Establish Embassy in Israel

Pastor Nigel Woodley of the Flaxmere Christian Fellowship has initiated a petition calling upon the New Zealand Parliament to establish an embassy in New Zealand. “Israel, in good faith, has had an Embassy in our country now for many years and I think it is time for New Zealand to reciprocate the goodwill,” Woodley writes in an announcement of the petition drive.  “At a time when the misguided are shouting ‘Free Palestine’ and ‘Close the Israeli Embassy in Wellington,’ we can be involved in pushing that dangerous and negative rhetoric and narrative to the back by calling for the proper diplomatic representation of New Zealand within Israel itself. How New Zealanders celebrate their holidays

Down Under, Hanukah and Christmas are summer time party times at the beach or lake or up in the mountains or you can just stay home. A big calendar, picturing ‘Food and Culture in Israel’ was a gift from the Embassy of Israel this time last year.It shows that the Eve of Hanukah this month is Sunday Dec 22 and Christmas day is the following Wednesday. The small Jewish community of New Zealand — much smaller than that of San Diego — and the Embassy of Israel host Hanukah Parties for the public each year in Auckland and Wellington. I can’t make one this year but they are always fun. [John McCormick]

Down Under they don’t trust U.S. media

I have a few email addresses from congressmen and senators in Washington. I sometimes get responses to what I send or have to say to them. Some of them have read the SDJW and have seen Alon Ben-Meir’s article entitled ‘Repercussions of Israel’s Fractured Democracy’ (nothing wrong with that article) and Bruce S. Tickers story ‘Impeachment unlikely to affect Democratic control of the House’???. So I won’t send Joel Cohen’s item entitled “Trump seeks Israel’s help in Election” because one or more dopey members of Congress might take it seriously and make an issue of it. (To read more, please click on the headline.)
